THE GUIDE · EDDM COSTS · 2026

What EDDM
actually costs.

Every Door Direct Mail has three costs: postage, printing, and the work of getting it right. Postage is the only fixed number. Here is how all three add up, with 2026 USPS rates.

§ 01 · THE SHORT ANSWER THREE COSTS · ONE FIXED

The short answer.

EDDM postage is $0.26 per piece as of July 12, 2026. Printing and design are the variables, and they usually cost more than the postage. A small business mailing 1,000 postcards pays $260 in postage, plus whatever the cards cost to design and print.

Every Utah Flyer price is all-in: print, postage, route selection, USPS paperwork, bundling, and drop-off. It starts at $625 for a Simple Mailing, where you bring the design. See all four options.

§ 02 · POSTAGE SET BY USPS · SAME FOR EVERYONE

Postage is the fixed part.

USPS sets EDDM postage, and it's the same whether you mail it yourself or hire someone. For EDDM Retail, the version most small businesses use, the rate is a flat $0.26 per piece. It was $0.247 until USPS raised it on July 12, 2026. Rates usually change each July, and I update this page when they do.

Card size doesn't change the postage, as long as it qualifies as an EDDM flat. A 6.5" × 9" card and an 8.5" × 11" card cost the same to mail.

§ 03 · PRINTING THE BIGGEST VARIABLE

Printing is the variable.

Printing usually costs more than postage, and three things drive the price:

  • Quantity. The per-card price drops sharply as the run grows, so 5,000 cards cost far less than ten times what 500 do.
  • Size. Bigger cards use more paper. Common EDDM sizes are 6.5" × 9", 6" × 11", 6.5" × 12", and 8.5" × 11".
  • Paper and finish. I print on 14pt card stock, which holds up in the mailbox and feels like something worth keeping.

The card has to be large enough to count as an EDDM flat: taller than 6.125", longer than 10.5", or thicker than 0.25". A standard 4" × 6" postcard doesn't qualify. The postcard guide covers the rest of the rules.

§ 04 · DESIGN AND PREP THE WORK YOU DON'T SEE

The work in between.

You can run an EDDM mailing yourself with the USPS online tool. If you do, here's what the job includes beyond postage and printing:

  • Design and copy that earns three seconds of attention
  • Choosing routes by household count, age, and income
  • Bundling cards in stacks of 50 to 100, with a facing slip for each route
  • Filing the USPS paperwork and dropping bundles at the post office that serves those routes

That's the part I do. A Custom Campaign adds the design and copywriting. A Simple Mailing covers everything else, if you already have a design.

§ 05 · WAYS TO SPEND LESS WITHOUT MAILING WORSE

How to spend less.

  • Mail fewer, better routes. 1,000 cards to the right neighborhoods beat 5,000 to the wrong ones.
  • Use a standard size. 6.5" × 9" is the most common size and one of the least expensive that qualify.
  • Bring your own design if you have one that works. That's the Simple Mailing.
  • Share a card. A Group Mailing puts 2 to 8 businesses on one postcard and splits the cost.
  • Plan a series. Repeat mailings reuse the design and routes, so each one after the first costs less to prepare.
§ 06 · NEXT STEP QUOTE INSIDE ONE BUSINESS DAY

Get a real number.

Tell me the area and the offer, and I'll send a written quote with route options and a timeline, usually inside one business day. It includes everything: print, postage, and drop-off.
